2015  Blacklight Bouldering Competition + Party

We’re back with the 11th Annual Blacklight Bouldering competition – known to many as one of the MOST FUN climbing events in the region! This unique event combines the VISUALLY STIMULATING appeal of black lights with the EXCITEMENT and ENERGY of a climbing competition, making it just as cool to watch as it is to participate.

Last year’s improvements to sessions, flow, and decor were a huge success and this year is sure to be even better with the addition of the one and only Zootown DJ as the event emcee; as well as the return of DJ Johnny Devine!

Open to ALL ages and abilities – check out the competition details below. Volunteer Opportunities are also available so be sure to check out the additional info at the end of this post.

Once the competition ends, everyone 21+ is invited to join us in the upstairs lounge for FREE beer and the musical selections of the one and only, DJ Johnny Devine.
Comp registration not required.

• Categories*: Adults, JRs & Youth A

 Competition: 3:00pm-6:00pm

Registration Includes:

 BEST ROUTES of the year   Black light FUN  •  AWARDS   RAFFLE PRIZES (Adult & Youth)

  BLACK LIGHT Comp T-Shirt (add’l $10, must register before 10/11)  

* Competitors must register for the assigned session for their category.
* Youth A is the only category being offered in both sessions.


Comp Format:
• Red point; no finals.

• 1st Place in all Adult Categories will receive a sweet product prize from one of our event sponsors.

USAC Credit and OPEN Category:
• Youth CANNOT get USAC credit for the comp if they compete in the OPEN Category. In the unusual case that a youth participant wants to compete for BOTH USAC credit AND prizes, you must register for and climb in both sessions. Yes, that means they have to pay twice.

Climbing Time:
• Climbers will be allowed EXACTLY 3 hours to climb. All climbing will end at the 3 hour mark. (This is a change from previous years when we allowed climbers to finish the climb that they were in line for at the buzzer.)

Gym Closure:
• The gym will be open to competitors only on the day of the comp and sections of the boulder and top rope walls will be closed 2-3 days ahead to time to allow time for our route setters to do their job setting all new routes. The good news is the gym will reopen on Sunday, October 25 with a HUGE selection of brand new routes for you try!

We Need You!

The Job: Competition Judges – No experience necessary! Help manage routes, competitor queues, scoring and spotting as needed.
Session 1: 10:15am-2:00pm – Session 2: 2:15pm-6:00pm –– All Day: 10:15am-6:00pm
Single Session Volunteers
: $25 EW Gift Card, comp t-shirt & Karma points.
Double Session Volunteers: $50 EW Gift Card, comp t-shirt, pizza & DOUBLE Karma points.

We will also need ART DECOR VOLUNTEERS Wednesday, Thursday and Friday prior to the comp. If you are interested, please talk to one of the friendly faces at the front desk.
